The Hunt

In the darkest hour of terrifying nights
When the devils danced with delight.
A boy felt trapped in his psychological plight
Stranded alone against a monster he couldn’t fight.

He was tortured by this monster every night every day.
He was a slave to his eternal misery & dismay
With delight his dreary spirit, the monster used to slay
For, he was the monster’s helpless prey.

Every night he ran, he tried to hide
Yet the monster matched his every stride.
With its claws, the monster tore his soul wide
& he laid waste with his shattered pride.

However in the darkest hour, amidst the terror tonight
Our wounded, weary warrior sought his inner light.
He let his rage & agony be his guide
He embarked on a hunt he keeping his fear aside.

He searched for the monster from west to east
With his burning fury, he unleashed his inner beast.
The dreadful outcome of the hunt concerned him the least
For tonight, on the monster’s flesh, he wanted to feast.

While the stars threw their shinning spears from the sky
Vengeance dribbled in the iris of his eye.
On the night’s plutonium shore, he sang a violent lullaby
For the past torment, tonight’s hunt seemed a fitting reply

As the monster came in the arc of his sight
He ferociously ambushed it with all his might.
He smiled while killing it under the pale moonlight
The prey became the predator, in the hunt tonight.

Note: In this poem, I’ve used the monster as a symbol of the various adversities of our life that are capable of mentally paralyzing us. Through the medium of this poem I just wish to express the fact that the trails of life are unpredictable & we as mortals are bound to run into adversities that are capable of destroying our dreams & hopes but rather than getting intimidated or bogged down by them, we must confront them head on because we all are bigger than our adversities. ❀

  1. I love the raw power in this! Reading it I was reminded of my own battles with mental health – the fear when the bad days and nights creep up and cripple you but the reminder that we have the strength to overcome. Thanks so much for sharing it!☺️
